Select one of the other tools in the "Tools" toolbar. The I-Bar tool is the normal cursor.

Does your machine have a built-in microphone? That where it appears on mine.Catalina doesn't have the ambient noise reduction in the sound settings.

No, but reversing the Catalina update is.But now unfortunately being on Catalina going back to 2.0.5 again is not an option.
The update to Catalina was not universally popular. If it stopped your workflow, then it's not popular with you, either.

Select the track. Effect > Low Pass Filter. The settings are in that screen capture a couple of posts back. It's not a big mystery. I found a couple of undistorted words and analyzed them to death. That low pass filter dumps all the tones that can't possibly be performer's voice—they must be trash. ...

With respect to the illustration where the blue waves are sliced off at 50%. The next time you record it's not sliced off at 50%? Are the waves ever sliced off lower than 50%?

I could not tell you if every one of them occurred at the same moment on each playback. Some tests would be very good to know. You have many of the symptoms of playback damage, not record damage. When you play the damaged show, does the same damage occur at the same show time each pass?
Does it only happen when you export a WAV for broadcast? Like when you have the music and voice files stacked up in Audacity, it's fine? If that's not how you edit, describe how you construct the show.

When you record the work the blue waves are much taller than they are later, after you Export the WAV files, open them, and play them back? No effects, filters, or corrections?
