Re: 4 channel MS+XY to 5.1 surround
I would do the walk-around test outdoors (since it's summertime as I write this). Even with traffic or other noses, you won't get wall or ceiling reflections to confuse the test. Also, if you do it right, you can tell exactly where all the cars and trucks are in your mix-down. "Why does that me...

Overdub the clicks using headphones or portable speaker plugged into the pc with the earpiece or speaker close to the mic. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity//pix/GTrackEarBuds.jpg And remember there are two latencies. The one which causes your live voice to arrive at your headphones late is computer l...

Time Shift Tool Data Entry
Mac Mini
OS-X 10.9.4
Audacity 2.0.5
There is no data entry for the Time Shift Tool, is there?
"Delay this track 25.3 msec."
By extension, there's no way to write down the delay for later on a different song?

Re: Recording el.guitar via USB, no input sound
Remember when we speak of a tiny microphone to USB adapter, we 're still talking about a microphone, not the guitar. Guitar pickups (assuming normal inductive type) produce tons more sound signal than a microphone does and will beat the snot out of the electronics in the USB adapter. You could adapt...

Re: Echo on playback of imported files.
MP3, 192 quality, 44100 sample rate, Mono should sound perfect. Audacity default is MP3, 128, Stereo, and that's considered very good. The practical limit bitrate for mono is 32. So that's probably not it. Download and open this short soundtest. It's 40 seconds. It has, practically speaking, a perfe...

Re: Echo on playback of imported files.
Audacity prefers a WAV file. Audacity will manage many different file types. It likes to deal with WAV because WAV files are acceptable to all three major computer types and it's a "perfect" format. No compression. I'm in my fourth read-through of the symptoms and nothing hits me. You mad...
Re: Editing
How old is your Audacity? The current version is 2.0.5. We haven't managed export specifications in the Preferences in a long time.

Re: Audio issues
Audacity has two different ways to tell if you're getting a good recording, and listening isn't one of them. While you're recording, you should get blue waves and bouncing red sound meters that should look something like this. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg Your red meters may b...
