Re: XLR to USB adapter, and Audacity
22dB signal boost gain, I expect boosts in the 40 or 50 range and that may not be enough. I never met a USB microphone adapter that I didn't have to run at maximum to get it to work — and that's if it had knobs on it. Some adapters have a software package that will allow you to adjust the boost. Yo...

Re: Need help with noise removal
You got a good one there. It's never going to sound any better than a hack job, but see if either of these works.

Re: Need help with noise removal
So, there's absolutely no way to even minimize the sound distortion? I'm trying some solutions. I was using a straight landline on my end. Straight landlines don't plug into computers. How did you capture the performance? That might give us a clue of what went wrong. I know of several landline reco...

Re: Need help with noise removal
When you make these recordings, do you listen to the recorder or the computer looped playback? I know it can be a little delayed from real time, but you're going to cut the interview anyway and it would have warned you that the captured sound was damaged, maybe enough to hang up and start over. I ne...

You picked a tuffy. What's the job? Multi-player game commentary?
You missed a sentence: "And I need it to record Skype, too."
I've been known to do that on multiple (modest) computers.

Select the point, Generate > Silence. The generate panel will let you select the duration.

Re: FFmpeg message suddenly appears after years of use.
You can easily do that by accident. I exported and delivered an MP3 by accident when the client required a WAV file. MP3 exporting requires extra software not included with Audacity. If the software was missing, I would have gotten an error message, too.

Re: Latency Issues
The worst problems are when the computer internal management is sloppy and the correction moves around, but as a musician friend once said, no orchestra or band has ever had everybody start at the same time. If the timing is objectionable, you can use the Time Shift Tools to put everything right. So...

Re: Samson usb meteor mic whitenoise
All microphones have preamplifier noise. Microphone signals, the signal actually generated by your voice are really small and it's difficult to boost them with nothing else going wrong. The object is to make the voice really loud and the noise really small. USB microphones also suffer from "con...
