Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity

I can hear a little echo in there now. Also I don't think that's our friend the USB frying mosquitoes. I think that's computer fan noise, but it's so low, I think gentle noise removal should do it. I applied correction at about 13 seconds. Attached. Now resolve the popping and I think we got it lick...

Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity

You make my postings sound better than when I write them. How do you do that? The answer is people pay you to do that. Did you have a board-op when you were working? That explains your unfamiliarity with the sound meters You should not be looking down on the microphone. The Blast Zone is straight i...

Re: Odd request for a pro noise reductionist.

help me with this very odd request. It's not odd. The forum gets requests like this on occasion. Audacity has no good tools to "clean up" or "pull voices" out of trash and bad recordings. If you can't clearly understand what's being said, then we can't help you. That and it's fo...

Re: Audio delay on Macbook Pro

Yes. That's correct. When I wrote the original overdubbing instructions, I picked three hardware devices that had their own monitoring to get around that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg For one example. There are two latencies or delays. Recording delay, or matchi...

Re: Hiss when recording.

I use Startech ICUSBAUDIO adapters. They do about what yours does. http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Sound/USB-Audio/USB-20-to-Audio-Adapter~ICUSBAUDIO I had one fail in a weird way. It passed sound OK, but it also screwed up the DC or battery system. I could not edit the show audio. I should h...

Re: High pitched vocal distortions w/ amplification

high-pitched metallic sounding distortions
Without actually hearing it, I bet someone has tried to apply noise reduction to the performance. That's about what it sounds like when you do it wrong.

No, you can't easily take that out.

Do you have control of the original shoot?

Re: Recommended USB microphone?

A USB microphone is always going to be limited to about 6 feet (2M) of cable before the data stream may become damaged. There are only painful, awkward ways of getting around that. I did this job with an omni-directional microphone mounted on a heavy plywood board and floating on several layers of D...

Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity

I felt the need to keep it in there for all the constructive criticism. The worst thing you can do is post a clip that you've already tried to patch and failed. You make my postings sound better than when I write them. How do you do that? I think we're better than 95% home. I bet you can't hear tho...

Re: Got another one for you tech geniuses

Effect > Change Speed. So this isn't "tape." These are all cassettes and you can't easily play the 7-1/2 tapes at 3-3/4 to slow them down. If you know the error is double and half, then the settings inside Effect > Change-Speed should do it. I'm guessing the result isn't going to be award-...
