Re: Editing Windows Audacity

It's very difficult to go back later and jam in corrections that match the original in rhythm, pitch and character, so what many people do is perform the correction immediately, while the memory of the performance is fresh, and then continue on. If you do it that way, you can also set a label with a...

Re: Mix and render problem: first channel gets over amplifie

I think the complaint is that they don't add up in a well-behaved manner. The top track's volume goes up more than the other two.

Re: Resume recording after playing back project so far

Shift-R. Append Recording.

Or maybe you want to de-select:
Audacity > Preferences > Recording: [_] Playthrough (as many as you have). That should kill playback while you're recording.

Re: Audacity Audio Wave Display Issue Help

You are down in the region where the waveforms have to be approximated. The linear timeline setting only displays about the loudest third of the show. Switch the display to Wavform dB with the menu on the left and the two should match again (but it can be harder to edit like that).

Re: Problems while recording

I think you are not recording the mixer. There are settings where you can record everything playing on the computer instead of restricting the recording to just the mixer connection. People get these settings confused all the time because those special settings are the ones used to record YouTube or...

Re: Generating inaudible tones

A sample frequency of 44100 (Audacity default) only supports musical tones up to about 20KHz and is messy with pure tones much above about 17KHz. So no, you won't be able to call bats with that. Try higher sample frequencies like 96000. That should take you up to about 36000 Hz tones. Then there's t...

Re: No Line In Option for Windows 8?

Windows 8 (and Win7) naturally assume you're going to make a Skype call and so default to microphone service. This is usually a safe bet because most Windows laptop machines now have mono, super sensitive Mic-In and not Stereo Line-In. From your symptoms, it's possible you are recording your built-i...

Nope. It does that on Macs, too.

Are you volunteering for the development team?

Re: poor recording quality w/audacity, mixer, & ext. speaker

Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound. Mine shows individual input and output settings. Yours should show you a switch where you can turn your one connection into a Stereo Line-In. That's how a friend's MBP-13" works. He has one connection and can't do both in and out at the same time...

Re: ripping vinyl for the first time... am I doing it right?

-96000 sample rate -24 bit rate
People get in trouble with advanced sample and bit rates. They produce enormous sound files for the work and there was a recent poster who found some compressed sound formats (like MP3? He didn't say which ones) didn't accept them.
