On XP, I believe you're stuck recording analog soundcard loopback. That's "Stereo Mix" or What-U-Hear.

Re: Using Virtual Audio Cable for 2 channels
I assume USB microphones although you didn't say so. Do you get the drift problems on longer shows? It's possible to get two microphones with little or no timebase error, but that's not normal.

Re: Radio sounds through recordplayer?
Do you have any orange and white towers in your neighborhood? http://kozco.com/pix/KABC-Full.jpg A teleproduction company got a really good deal on performance space in the industrial park under that tower. They eventually had to stop using it because it was impossible to shoot sound. KABC Radio wou...

Re: Sound Card Reviews
Does the iMic still have a Line-Mic switch? Yes. So it has one up on Startech if you have a Mac with no audio in. My recollection of this thing is of a rotten, low gain Mic-In coupled with a high-distortion Line-In that overloads easily. It's truly a convenient external version of the average lapto...

Re: Differences between analogue & digital mixing?
I think you're listening to a combination of tape characteristics and your ear's oddities. Loud always sounds good. That's why the store makes the sound system they want to sell quickly louder than the others. Tape systems are not linear. They have a graceful "S" curve and it's your job to...

Re: I Need to Fix a Segment of Poorly Recorded Audio
Somehow you managed to have your show ping-pong between left and right several times. Since the show sound never really dropped out, I reduced the show to mono and those effects vanished. Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono. Then, since most of the trash is rumble and truck-driving-by sounds, I filtered t...

Re: Any way to record with Audacity and a usb dac
If your DAC goes both directions, then you can route the computer audio output to the DAC and instead of listening to it, connect a short cable from the analog output back to the analog input. Then tell Audacity to record your DAC. This is a Behringer DAC that can be used this way. http://www.kozco....

Re: I need help checking the output of stimuli for research
In digital audio, "zero" is the maximum possible volume. That's where the conventional digital sound system runs out of numbers and just stops increasing. Audacity uses special "32-bit floating" internally so it can increase beyond zero and then recover later. This is needed beca...

And yes, if the vocals are a little dull with the idea of getting rid of crashing sibilances, then your microphone system is broken.
