Re: No bass from subwoofer
Lame/MP3 doesn't do that. You can get a lot of other strange effects, but probably not that one. Magnify the blue waves on the song with weak bass. Do the majority of the waves go the same direction (attach 1), or the opposite direction (attach 2)? This is a 13 second organ solo. It has good but may...

Re: Handful of peaks hindering amplification of quiet record
You should be able to adjust the compressor to help that. Have you tried the "Compress Based On Peaks" setting? There's also "Limiter" and "Hard Limiter," but I'm not sure which ones come with Audacity. Some of those tools are home baked. If you want to commit to it, yo...

You can get a similar voice with Effect > Vocoder.

Re: Microphone/Recording Issue
Oh, one more. It's possible you may need the "20dB Boost" setting to get your lavalier loud enough. That's buried in the Sound control panels — if you have a boost. Some soundcards don't have one and you may not be able to use that microphone with that computer. The USB microphone has all ...

Re: Microphone/Recording Issue
Both microphones have to go through Windows Sound Services before Audacity gets there. I assume you're plugging your lavalier into the pink Mic-In of your soundcard? Win7 has a bouncing sound meter in the Control Panels. Did Vista have that? It's insanely handy in diagnosing sound problems. Windows ...

Re: Can't open Audacity
Did you do your system upgrade recently? Go into your Mac system preferences (Apple > System Preferences > Security) and make sure your Applications permissions are set as in the attached picture. Also, it may not let you install it if you're not on-line. There's also a way to override that restrict...

Re: Time shifting
You should not be messing with the AU files. Those are Audacity internal housekeeping files. and if you damage one, the associated show may not play. You can open each project and cut and paste between them. Attached is two Audacity instances running separate tracks (tone and noise). I selected the ...

Re: Augments 2.0.3 or stand alone?
I saw a warning against .dmg download. Where? Successive installs of Audacity are all self-contained. What they do is assume the preferences and settings of the one before. So if you had a particular operating environment you liked before, for the most part, it should survive the upgrade. The downs...

Re: Slow performance with many tracks
The only other thing I can think of is run Go > Utilities > Activity Monitor. Attached is a drive indication on mine. That graph will tell you all about the drive activity and which direction. If you have any activity at all on a spinning metal drive during editing, that will cause delays, sometimes...

Re: Slow performance with many tracks
You get the beachball when OS-X allocates time to complete a task and the task takes longer than that. If you get it repeatedly, then there's an imbalance or a problem somewhere. Have you run Verify Disk and Repair Permissions? I think your machine just isn't up to it. I have an older Mini that was ...
