Re: Proper levels in cropped field recordings
How can I be more precise about standardizing my various field recordings? Record them in a studio. By definition, Field Recordings are created under uncontrolled and unstable conditions. Very few people collect Field Recordings, throw them on a timeline and go without post-production and balancing...

Re: delay in vocals, latency is correct.
We're hoping you meant to say Peavey PV6-USB. The regular one won't do that. The USB one may not do that, either. Mixers and devices have to be specially designed to mix Audacity Playback with your live voice. I have a note in to Sweetwater Sound to get somebody to test this. So far, nothing. This m...

Re: If anyone could please help!!
The live delay thing is a pain in the neck. I reviewed three hardware devices that can provide "Perfect Overdubbing," you hear in the headphones exactly what the combined track is going to sound like. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg It's a lot more of a p...

Re: Audacity no longer records anything
According to the Device Toolbar, you're trying to record from the internal CD player.
I have no idea how it got that way, or why it's gray.

Re: Editing a Compressed File (Sound) (Is it damaging to do
I just use the iPod to record. How? I keep meaning to blast enough free time to try it with mine, but haven't yet. Did you get one of those breakout adapters and use a "computer microphone?" A regular microphone with another adapter? Headset? Radio Shack 3013? http://www.radioshack.com/pr...

Re: Proper levels in cropped field recordings
Assuming your work is neither so quiet that it's noisy or so loud as to be distorted, I think what you're doing is perfect. Compressors don't just change loudness, they also, in extreme, change the density of the sound. You never get away with no evil effects. The best you can do is balance the effe...

Re: crashing audacity
How old is the Mini and which OS are you using? My Mini is about two years old and I have OS-X 10.9.5.
Make it give you the error message again. Do a screen capture with Command-Shift-3 and post the picture here.

Re: Silent sound capture, can someone help me?
I see that a frequency spectrum is being captured. Correct. If you have a gentle amount of evenly distributed noise in the frequency spectrum, that is most likely the natural noise generated by the microphone or the microphone system. If you amplify it enough, it will sound like ffffffffffffff. I c...
