Re: Audacity can't find my USB input
Audacity looks for new devices when it starts. You can Restart Audacity or Transport > Rescan.

Re: background hum on voice track (s)
Another one. Try to wrap the headset cable around your hand and then touch something metal like a desk lamp or the front of the computer. I have one microphone which works perfectly well when I do this.

Re: background hum on voice track (s)
My USB headset does that, too. It's very sensitive to other electronics on my desk. Mine can pick up hum from my large monitor. Try moving around while you listen to yourself.

Re: Muting internet radio while recording
You may not be recording what you think you're recording. On many computers, the sound is pushed all the way out to the speaker feed and then turned around and brought back in. So you are recording the analog playback errors and the analog record errors of your sound card. This also explains why you...

Re: Supressing unwanted sounds
You recorded two shows at the same time, the announcer and construction. That's a violation of number 4. The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording (reliable, time-tested ways to kill your show) -- 1. Echoes and room reverberation (Don't record the show in your mum's kitchen.) -- 2. Overload and Clipping ...

Re: Reducing Amplitude
attenuate the volume, which nearly saturates the entire field on Audacity Nearly?? We can only go on what you tell us. If you select View > Show Clipping, does your timeline turn bright red? All of those red portions are likely permanently distorted. Crunchy and harsh? That's overload. The digital ...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
Again, I haven't plowed through the whole thread. Any time interval that stays zero for three successive will trigger an overload. The current tool seems to trigger at zero, doesn't it? Use that value x3. The overload illustration is of sound that is very close to or right on the Nyquist restriction...
