Re: Clipping when amplifying after importing second track
When you play two or more tracks, Audacity just adds them up. The combination of the two is too loud. I've never done this, but Tracks > Mix and Render might give you a separate mixed track. You can then run the volume tools on that instead of each individual track. I need to try this. If you're aft...

Re: Blue spark digital Mic hiss (even when muted)
No, we need an example of the hiss as compared with your voice. I get a -60 or so noise which is OK, but not if your voice is very low. The hum thing can be a problem with the USB connections to your computer. Do you have more than one USB connection and does it do it with all of them? Sometimes you...

Re: Avid MBox not appearing in Input / Output Dropdown lists
Avid/ProTools MBox is married to the Avid software and interface. It's not a generic box and isn't directly supported by Audacity. It's possible you maybe able to find a driver combination that works. Post back if you do. Other people would like to get this combination to work.

really important person. Re-record your questions in a good environment with a good quality microphone — or at least one that matches the one you would have used had it been on. You can play the existing show into your headphones and talk over yourself a second later. It's not impossible but it tak...

Re: Looking for advice on ripping old rave tapes
There it is. Analyze > Regular Interval Labels. After you throw labels around, you can then File > Export Multiple and Audacity will create a pile of sound files each of which starts at a label. That's how you can make a Music CD, too. Make a pile of sound files and drag them into the Audio CD Autho...

Re: Looking for advice on ripping old rave tapes
I'm not sure how well I have worded that I'm not sure on the correct terminology but previous recordings may have been to loud. We got that. You need to be careful about having sound too loud because if you screw up the digitizing process, you will get permanently damaged recordings and sound files...
Re: recording
my computer does not have a mic (10-12 year old Dell) That's not likely. If it's a laptop it almost certainly has a microphone and if it's a deskside, it has a soundcard unless you built the machine yourself. Windows likes to hide devices and services, at least in the later versions. You have to fi...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
That may be misleading. Several times in the thread people have pressed for visible warning before clipping. I have a mixer whose flasher goes approx. 3dB before sound damage. That idea is what the manual configuration would provide.Koz won't get configurable Show Clipping

Are you putting a USB microphone or headset system through a USB hub? Live audio doesn't like going through hubs with other equipment.

Re: ripping individual songs from CDs from tapes
data tape to a WAV file One WAV file? You are supposed to put Labels at the beginnings of each song on the timeline (including the first one) and then File > Export Multiple. This will give you a pile of individual music files which you then drag to Windows Media. Tell Windows Media to burn an Audi...
