Re: Memory Management Problem?

A while back it was determined that the forum elves could not keep up with real-time trolls and SPAM on the forum, so new posters are placed in "moderation." A Forum Elf reads your posting (it's visible to us) and accepts it for publication. If you behave yourself during the moderation per...

Re: "White noise" effect on recording

I read back through the posting. Nobody said the words: "We turned off Windows Enhanced Services." I'm guessing it's still running. That's what Services sound like when they're trying to cancel background noises on the built-in microphone.

Re: Recording vocals

That's what happens when you tell Audacity to record Everything On The Computer (Stereo Mix) instead of just the Microphone. Change that in the Audacity Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/device_toolbar.html Audacity Recording options should only have Overdubbing selected. I predic...

Re: connect Behringer umc 202

I'm looking at the UMC202 product specifications and it seems to be a very nice Mic-Pre. I have a call into Sweetwater Sound about that "Direct Monitor" button. Depending on how they wired that, I may be able to certify another hardware device for overdubbing. It is going to have a problem...

Re: "White noise" effect on recording

bubbly, running water is the sound of echo cancellation trying to suppress background sounds in a spoken word performance. In other words what happens to traffic noises when you talk on a cellphone. The problem comes when the system decides what's "bad noise." Any sustained tones, like air...

Re: editing not working right and files won't save

Keep going please. What was the error message and are you putting dates in your filenames?

Re: Loud Background Noise When Recording

Blue waves that go straight across (and no bouncing red sound meter) means you're recording silence. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg You should make sure Audacity is trying to record your microphone. Look at the Recording entry in the Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacityteam.or...

Re: editing not working right and files won't save

What is the error message?

Audacity will not Save a sound file. You have to Export to get one and it won't make an MP3 without adding special software.

You can get into troubles by putting punctuation marks inside filenames. Use the ISO form of date. Today is 2014-12-11.

Re: background tape noise

Effect > Amplify > OK. That will make the show as loud as possible without overloading the track. Back-of-the-Hall recordings have two problems: The obvious one is low volume because the microphone is too far away. The other, much more serous problem is the noise the actual room is making including ...
