Re: What I need

Yes, it is a CD R.
It can be a CD-R and not be an Audio CD. Audio CD is a very specific format. A Data CD with music on it may play on your computer, but not in your mum's Buick.

Re: hall'ish playback on defaults

Many Windows users experience this if they haven't turned off Windows Enhanced Services.

Select > Invert

Maybe I'm missing something, but selecting what I want remaining is way too complicated.

Drag Select my desired clip from something larger. Edit > Select > Invert. Del.

Re: cutting and pasting

You can drag-select your work in Stop (not Pause). Copy. Make a new blank track. Tracks > Add New. Paste. If you have trouble finding your clip, you can magnify and place labels at the In and Out points. The labels are sticky so when you zoom out they will grab your drag-select cursor as it goes by....

Re: 64k bitrate export

If you're using a really really really old Audacity, You can change the MP3 export bitrate in Preferences. If you have a newer Audacity, you can change it during the export in Options. http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=11258 However. You probably don't want to do that. Audacity does...

Re: increasing sound in recorded conversation from smartphon

Smartphone Personal Recorders don't record the far side. What you're hearing is the acoustic leakage between the earpiece and the microphone and further, managed to get past the echo cancellation. We can't do audio forensics. If you can't understand the voice now, then there isn't anything we can do...

Re: Sound disappears from computer after opening Audacity

You don't reset Audacity by reinstalling it. Somewhere in the middle of the Windows install, it will ask you if you want to reset preferences as well. Say yes. Rescan Audio Devices is helpful if, for example, you plugged in a USB Sound Device. If you plug it in while Audacity is running, Audacity wi...

Re: a question about a message

Oh, it does work, but Audacity considers any product or show incomplete unless you also save a Project.

And yes, I do wish it acted like other programs which accept my product decision as final.

Re: Problem with garbled crackling vocal

A Few Files? Multiple files are corrupted?

It's rough to believe the file itself has become damaged. Much more likely the system made a good file from a damaged show.

I'm in deep water. I'm not a Windows elf.
