Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
Good to know. I was planning on an external higher quality microphone, not the built-in one (my retarded iPod doesn't have a built-in one. It may even be too old to accept sound APPs). Many people bump into 32 as the lowest possible quality for mono recording. 64 is a significant step up, although I...

Re: low volume and hum using mic
I don't know what this means I assumed you were talking about your USB cable. "SoundCard" has taken on the identity of anything that handles sound whether it's a formal card that fits in your desktop computer or not. That's one reason it's good to use a lot of English words when you're de...

Re: low volume and hum using mic
"It can't be this hard."
Ian has the longest posting on the Audacity forum. He wanted to record his voice for audiobooks in his Hollywood apartment. Bruno has the second longest. He was recording his acoustic guitar in his apartment somewhere in Portugal.

Re: low volume and hum using mic
There certainly are other options. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=81554&p=256332&hilit=ART+USB+Dual+Pre#p256332 Both Steve and I do it with a dedicated sound mixer and USB adapter. Very highly recommended. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo-650....

Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
There is one partial way around this. If you export your Audacity work as WAV or very high quality MP3 (or AAC), that export won't get worse. But that can get you stealth compression problems later. We had one poster delivering reasonable quality music shows to a radio station from MP3 music downloa...

Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
Yes. iTunes format conversion is an import feature, not an export feature. Wasn't that fun? AAC/M4A which can not be edited as far as I've found beyond using mp3gain to adjust volume. Upconverting to a higher quality sound format generally gives you a really accurate AAC or MP3 damaged WAV sound fil...

Re: CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone: beeping in playback
That's the "Put The Hub In" approach. That's a valid approach to double your USB cable reach. Put a hub in the middle and you can get 12 feet (4M) of USB cable instead of the usual 6 feet (2M) cable length. If you're using one of those cheap million-foot USB extension cables already, I wou...

Re: CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone: beeping in playback
Back here on earth:
It seems it also only happens on cheap, inexpensive microphone systems that directly use the USB 5 volt bus in the voice signal. Much more expensive USB microphones and amplifiers with formal power supplies, regulators, filters, etc, don't appear to do that.
