You may be experiencing one of the main reasons Audacity doesn't make a very good surveillance recorder. No time stamps. There's other reasons, but that's a big one.

If the interface or associated software is gating it will be possible to switch it off.
Which snaps us back to knowing what your microphone is and how you have it connected.

What's the show? We need a show concept or idea before we can start throwing sound channels around.

Is this a Skype version of an older, non-virus production? Interview?

Audacity and Skype/Zoom tend to not get along in the same computer.

You can get that error if you use punctuation marks in filenames. Upper case, lower case, numbers, -dash- and _underscore_ are safe. That's it. Today is 2020-10-20. No slash marks.

A word on decibels. They seem to work backwards but the numbers are all negative, so it's OK.
