Re: recording from casette to PC
Make sure the unit is plugged in and running before you start Audacity. Then start Audacity and look for the unit or a "usb audio device" in the Audacity device toolbar. The name could be anything, but it's going to be something that wasn't there before. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/ma...

Re: edit preferences
The two can diverge if the version and the manual are different. The Manual is, as much as possible, for the very latest public release version of Audacity. At this writing, it's 2.0.6. If you do it just right, you can get stuck between two updates. This is a pile of volunteers, not a corporation. F...

I have no feeling for whether or not you're following me, so I need a guide where you get stuck. And be specific where you get stuck — on which step.

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
You understand that makes you The Producer (upper case intentional), right? The Producer takes steps and does whatever is necessary to cause the show to exist. So if you're going to have a "credit roll" at the end of the show, that's your title.

Re: extract notes to wav
Not in Audacity. This is too close to the frequent request of "extracting the show from the noise and save it as a separate file." You need a sound analysis program, not a simple audio editor.

Re: How do I make an 15 second interval CD?
It can't be 99 tracks or so . The maximum number of tracks on an Audio CD is 99. My impression from your first posting was tone-silence-tone. If you have 99 tracks already, then you have no choice but to integrate the tone-silence with the show clips. Using the Audio CD Authoring Program to do it wi...

Many of the Audacity tools drop dead if you are in Pause rather than Stop.

Re: Combining MP3s
Yes. Import one and then import the other. They will arrive one above the other and play at the same time. You may not, however, export the combined show at the same MP3 quality value as the originals. The filesize is going to get very much larger for the same sound quality. Never do sound productio...

Re: clicks and dropouts
There is an odd duck noise problem possible if you have a sound track that doesn't start at zero on the timeline. How many tracks do you have and do they all start at Time Zero?
