Re: Blue Yeti or 2 XLR mics with mixer for podcasting?
The microphones should be OK with a couple of tricks. He is expecting them to be used with a guitar amplifier, so that's the kind of cable it comes with. You need something with XLR on both ends. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/XLR-Cable-500.jpg The Behringer mixer will only support one microphon...

Re: I deleted my entire audio file.
UNDO? If you saved (exported) the Audacity file as .wav and the Moviemaker file as .mov or whatever Windows uses, then they're both still there. Those are different files. Get Windows to search for AUDIO3 and you should get two hits with different icons. If they were both WAV files, can you make Win...

Re: Removing background noise leaves voices sounding strange
I have been successful Success is when you suppress the noise and leave the show clear and undamaged. Noise Removal is a juggling act between suppressing the trash and not harming the show. If the noise is bad enough, there is no middle ground. Noise Removal fails a lot. The first step, when you dr...

Re: Mic adjustment inoperative when using USB input
Because of the speakers? I've heard clipping isn't good for them as the signal is trying to pull the cone out or in over a longer period of time than the speaker was designed for. It sounds though, that there is something more damaging with a digital system than just sound distortion or stress on s...

Re: Blue Yeti or 2 XLR mics with mixer for podcasting?
Life is never easy down here at the bottom end. Yes, there are ways to record two USB microphones. If you're on windows, there is VoiceMeeter. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_how_to_s.html#twomics I believe (I'm not a Windows elf) that will give you the ability to control the live...

Re: Mic adjustment inoperative when using USB input
The -6 target is assuming a live musical or voice capture. That leaves enough headroom so you can be a little expressive without smashing the meter all the way to the right. Overload in a digital system is very serious. However, if you really are recording radio programs off the air, those have been...

Re: Audacity can't open
One relatively harmless thing you can try is Repair Permissions. Go (top bar menu) > Utilities > Disk Utilities. Pick your system drive and Verify Disk, and then later Repair Permissions. If there is an odd permission problem, the Mac will not let Audacity put files where it thinks they should go. Koz

Re: De-Esser settings? - 2 second voice file attached
I'm not horrified you're using that little microphone. I've done temporary tracks (carefully) with the little microphone in my laptop and have used other microphones "against-type" when I needed to. I just didn't tell anybody what I was doing.

Re: De-Esser settings? - 2 second voice file attached
We have two conflicting ideas. Anything with USB in the title generally means that the sound is fixed once it leaves the microphone. All the sound shaping, amplification, noise compensation, etc, etc, is handled in the head of the microphone (the analog part) and that's the way it is from that way f...

Re: De-Esser settings? - 2 second voice file attached
Real "essing" is when the sound crashes whenever you hit SSS. It actually turns into a different sound like listening to a military air traffic controller crashy voice as an extreme example. A De-Esser tries to recognize that damage, suck out the crash sound and substitute what it thinks y...
