Re: Peak Levels

And that in one paragraph is what's been preventing us from writing the definitive WIKI on how to make an ACX audiobook file. It's audio whack-a-mole. If you got the noise and average loudness (RMS) to work, then you can cheat the peaks with Effect > Limiter You don't have to go nuts with "aver...

Re: Blue Yeti or 2 XLR mics with mixer for podcasting?

I'm surprised that the listings are still there, but the content behind them is gone. iTunes is usually better at that. Maybe it's a quirk of the search system. If I didn't already know it was there, I'd never find it any other way. One "problem" microphones have is an enormous signal rang...

Re: Listening while recording

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough.

However, that's not going to work if you're doing sound-on-sound overdubbing. The headphone sound will be late and throw your timing off.

The episodes won't download. I think I'm beating the snot out of my switch. I'm transferring two HiDef TV shows right now.

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

complete pains in the patootie That's the alternate plural form, yes. Audacity wasn't able to talk to the audio device again Maybe it was considered wasteful and the OS shut it down. The audio device no longer exists. If that happens again, see if Apple > Preferences > Audio can see it. Koz

y'know, the 'net)? We know the net. That's why it's off. To prevent signatures offering to increase my manhood. It's fine the way it is. Really. That's also why the multi-cycle moderation process is there. No, I don't want to buy kitchen cabinets in Manchester. I'll let you know. Are you volunteeri...

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

Doesn't count. FireWire is high-speed bi-directional. My last Mac Mini didn't boot from the internal drive. It booted from the large, external FireWire drive and it did that until the drive failed to come up one day. It did video, audio, television, Audacity and other live production work just fine....

Re: Can you give me some direction on this raw audio file?

Our concern is the presence of sound in your performance that normal people can't hear, but is enough to confuse tools, filters and effects. It's low pitched tones like thunder, earthquakes, or very large trucks going by your house. Somehow you managed to record tones even lower pitched than that. S...
