Re: Peak Levels
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Sorry. Wrong one. Do you remember the Noise Reduction setting you used (top number)? It was probably too high whatever it was. The silence segment at the top is too silent and the spaces between words and at natural gaps is too deep. I...

Re: Can you give me some direction on this raw audio file?
I'm not a terrific fan of foam. Acousti-Foam and other products cost a billion dollars a sheet for a reason. They're special, dense-cell, non-aligned, lumpy sheets. It's not packing foam or other products. Jury's out on "Memory Foam." That may actually work fairly well, but we're back to m...

cloth on as much of the exposed hard surfaces at the top as I can Won't help and it will make cleaning much harder. The best thing you can do to hard surfaces is to build them non-parallel. If you do opt for cloth pick something like Duvetyne® and use several layers. Felt works in several layers. C...

Re: Problems With Recording
I have no problems when using Skype. That's good to know. That means there is a microphone and it does work. Actually, you don't know if you have problems or not. All you know is nobody complained about it. Anyway, See if there's anything in this to help. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutori...

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.
I can't identify the noise. It sounds like, and it analyses like normal microphone hiss with maybe a little rumble thrown in. Perfectly normal for this type of microphone and not a problem...unless your live performance is too low.

Re: Audacity lost Devices information
What kind of Mac do you have and what device are you expecting to be there? If you have a USB microphone and it becomes unplugged even for a moment, it will vanish from Audacity until you either restart Audacity or Transport > Rescan. Close Audacity. Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound >...

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.
From bleeding experience, low performance sound levels almost always produce downstream problems. You are a digital celebrity if yours don't.What you have been commenting on then, just the sound levels?

I need to know the truth about the quality of my efforts You will get our opinion. Some of the posters come very close (as near as we can tell) to ACX Audiobook compliance. I know (or strongly suspect) that your submission goes through automatic compliance first to weed out obvious failures, but th...

Re: Inverting audio to isolate changes
I know it's a lot more entertaining than people think. Import both tracks into Audacity and they will appear one above the other and play at the same time unless you stop them with the MUTE or SOLO buttons. Select one track only by clicking just above MUTE. Effect > Invert. Now it gets fun. Almost c...
