Re: low volume and hum using mic

The ART preamp you have is USB powered. I wouldn't bother with batteries or an external supply.
The forum is full of postings from people that have USB noise problems on microphone systems.

I bought the Mac series that has Stereo Line-In. No A/D converter.

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I have a small Peavey mixer and an M-Audio FastTrack Ultra but that's outside your budget. That's what I'm messing with. My Peavey and UCA202 come in at around $130. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo-650.jpg I hoped to shoot a natural sound clip, but I'm missing pieces in st...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

The 50 dB of gain is from the Shure spec sheet. Fascinating. I wonder where he got his numbers from. You got this, right? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/USBDualPrePS It won't have an AC cord. It's clear you have to buy a separate power supply, probably a brick that plugs into the wall. A th...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

One more note. Microphone cables like this: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/XLR-Cable-500.jpg ...can be run for long distances assuming you don't go close to theater lighting wires or heavy electrical machinery or powerful, noisy stuff like that. Contrast that with the USB cable which is good for...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

50 dB gain is for the X2U The review claimed all the units had 40dB gain. That's probably more accurate and that's the problem. If my X2U had higher gain, I would like it a lot more. And yes, there was a complaint in the review comments of low volume. The reviewer was recording a live [rock] voice ...

Re: Audacity strictly for vocals with Roland synth

OK, there's the first problem. You need to be perfectly accurate and to be obsessive with model numbers. I have the mic plus TC Helicon Voiceplusworks, It's not. It's a Voiceworks Plus. Which microphone? Model numbers. We need to build your system in our imaginations and you can't give us too much i...

Re: Audacity strictly for vocals with Roland synth

My digital 8 track recorder died Life is about to get very complicated no matter what you do. Audacity will certainly do overdubbing/sound-on-sound, but it's going to be nothing like pressing play and record in the right order on your multitrack recorder. Most of the process is setting up Audacity ...

Re: help needed using program

First step might be the version. We don't make a 2.06. Might you have 2.0.6?
