Re: low volume and hum using mic
If his mic cable is shorting one side of the mic to ground, he's losing 6 dB of signal right there. On an SM58, the other side has a 6dB gain. It floats. You do lose the balanced noise rejection, though. What is really needed for diagnosing this problem is a male XLR connector with a 150-ohm resist...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
Please tell me you saved the original raw recording as either WAV or Audacity Project (or both). A very common error is people write corrections on top of the capture files. If there's a problem they can't revert to the clean recordings and try again. If ACX complains about high volume (unlikely, bu...

And the shadow behind each one explains why I couldn't get rid of it by chopping them out.
Well, shucks.

Re: Cannot select only one track
Do you actually have two tracks? Attached is one mono track and one stereo track. I will not be able to select one of the two sides of the stereo track (left or right) without splitting them apart. I can easily select the mono track (by clicking just above the MUTE button) and move it later or earli...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
The new Contrast in Audacity 2.0.6 can no longer be used to measure noise. In order to clear up some odd results, it now ignores silent patches when it measures RMS. Tight measurements and loose, sloppy measurements on the timeline are a lot more consistent now. One quick and dirty way to measure no...
Re: Phasing
It's not in the Device Toolbar. You have to go into Windows Control Panels to check and set this. That link tells you how.

Re: get rid of a narrow frequency or sound
OK, Noise Removal probably isn't going to to work. I tried that up to eight and a half seconds in the clip and then gave up. You might be able to use some of the vinyl record click removal tools. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sample_workflow_for_lp_digitization.html I also tried manually remo...

Re: Problems with drivers?
You know you're supposed to be listening to the Scarlett to get the low latency, right, not the computer? The Scarlett (apparently) has an on-board headphone mixer to mix live performance with older tracks. Choose the Scarlett for both record and playback in Audacity. Of course you'll have to adjust...
