Re: How to center sound when recording
The computer is running XP (it's an old computer I resurrected for this purpose). Perfect. Just so you don't connect it to the internet. Ever. Since Microsoft stopped issuing security patches, it's virus chum (in the fish sense). Since this device is not a mixer, my bet is you're stuck with your pe...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
Just for giggles, what happens to a Contrast value if an RMS meter reading is "lumpy?" That is, it hovers around, say -65, but because it's measuring live audio, wanders up to -61 and down to -69.

Re: How to center sound when recording
And again, not having any idea what you're doing, you could have a sound device that insists on recording in Stereo. Many external soundcards do that. If you are stuck like that, then you're only hope is to fix it in Post Production. See: DVDDoug. That can get awkward if you wanted to do overdubbing...

Re: [Possible Bug] Cmd-1 broken after numeric range edit
Audacity doesn't have Edit Markers like a video editor. The best you can do is set labels at the two edit points. You can move and tune them as needed. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/label_tracks.html Labels are sticky and you can drag-select your clip and work on that. You can also use the &q...

We see you. We would just as soon you not post any personal information. The forum is a SPAM magnet and is seen by many companies eager to sell you stuff. It's not LAME that you need to install. Installing the FFMpeg software will allow you to open many different sound file types. http://audacitytea...

We can't see what you're doing, so you need to include makers and model numbers every time you say something like "the player" or "the turntable."

The digital sound specifications Audacity is expecting and the ones of the sound device are different enough that Audacity can't figure out what's going on.

Re: Audacity strictly for vocals with Roland synth
the other day I think it revolted for the last time, shorted out beyond help..... It went to that peaceful bit-bucket in the sky.... The Helicon was just used to keep me on-key. I understand. I'm "pitch challenged" myself. I am horrible and cannot stand to hear myself sing. I can stand to...

That typically happens to that extent if you tried to resize your screen or something else evil happened to your desktop. Do you know what you did?

Re: low volume and hum using mic
Still, there will be a 6 dB loss when an balanced source is wired unbalanced vs. balanced regardless of impedance. Unless it's balanced/ floating. With no hard ground reference, grounding one side will just cause the signal on the other side to double. If this were any of the active condenser micro...
