Re: Background music isolating from extracted vocals?
Not one button-push easy, no. You're much further along than most posters who assume the two tracks are molecular-level accurate and they just need to subtract them. Now you're probably suffering from MP3. Every MP3 is slightly different because its job is to hide portions of audio depending on cont...

Re: Background music isolating from extracted vocals?
If you got close that way, then you may be able to use the Time Shift Tool to push one track slightly later or earlier to complete the cancellation. High frequencies are rough to do, particularly if you're using MP3 files which can have timing problems. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/time_shif...

Audacity will import several common sound file formats, but to greatly expand the list, load the FFMpeg software (scroll down).

Re: Not sure if I should download Audacity
Self-Recording is harder than simply recording your built-in microphone, but it can usually be done. Tell us about your computer and version of operating system. Windows?? Mac?? I'm typing on MacBook Pro, OS-X 10.9.5 I had Audacity a long time ago but could only record for a short time. Then you pro...

Re: How to get rid of extraneous noises
I would have picked Silence the Selection, Control-L. Split Delete leaves a portion of the production with no track.

Re: latency when overdubbing
There are two latencies: Recording latency where you use the Audacity tools to make your new track match all the older ones. Then there's computer latency where you try and listen to your live voice and it's always late. Which one do you have?

Re: How to center sound when recording
There's nothing wrong with producing just one side of a stereo track. That's not broken, it's just inconvenient. You still need to conform to good recording practices: peak sound meters at about-6 (zoom the sound meters for live recording), Don't overload any time, ever, etc. Make sure you have good...
