I think the first thing I would do is cast off Audacity 2.0.4. Get Audacity 2.0.6 from here.

During the installer, it will ask you if you want to reset Audacity as well as reinstall. Say yes.

Re: Help with RMS and noise floor
Open up the clip you sent and turn on View > Show Clipping. Those three or four blasts of red on the timeline are overload points. It's too loud. The sound will be a little crunchy...and it's permanent. Overload is one of the good ways to kill your show. I'm very concerned with what the clip sounds ...

Re: Help with RMS and noise floor
Into the closet I go, I guess. That's exactly what Ian did. He has the longest thread in the forum history. He took over a broom closet and set up shop in there to get away from traffic on La Brea Ave in Los Angeles. That's only the isolation part. You also have to get rid of the "tight" ...

Re: How do I record a phone voicemail onto my macbook pro?
There is a way to cheat. Set up to record your laptop from its built-in microphone. It's behind the grill just to the left of the "fn" key on mine. Start the recording and jam the earset of the phone over that microphone.

Re: How do I record a phone voicemail onto my macbook pro?
You're going to have to fill a lot of holes. Which Mac exactly and which OS-X? My 15" MacBook Pro has a special place to plug in something for recording. Two black arrows and thin circle. If you have a smaller Mac you may not have that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn-650.jpg I...

Re: Fading Out A Specific Song
You can try the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line). Selecting that will give you steering lines above and below the blue waves and you can click on those to change the volume as the show moves.

Re: Lost data file but still have recorded tracks
I renamed a saved aup file That was a bad idea. The only safe way to do that is open the show and save it as a new name in Audacity. Can you change the name back? It has to match the name on the _DATA folder and they both have to match the name burned into the AUP file. Open your AUP file in any te...

Quick note. Do Not apply any filters or effects to your posted clip. We need to hear it before you help it.

Re: Help with RMS and noise floor
Each one of my files must have a noise floor no higher than -60dB RMS. Where exactly do I set this? It's best to set it by purchasing quiet equipment and then recording in a quiet, echo-free room. If you have traffic noise, record after midnight. If your noise is hiss (fffffff), it's possible you'r...

Re: how to get it between -23db and -18db for ACX standard
Actually, you have to meet all three. Background noise (hiss (fffff) usually), blue wave peaks at -3 and then overall loudness (RMS) between -18 and -23. Noise doesn't have to be hiss. It can be street traffic as you read. Are you on Windows? Do you have any of the Windows Enhanced Services running ...
