Re: Compare samples and generate EQ profile
nowhere near the quality of the file provided. Can you provide it to us? http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=72887 If it's an MP3 file, you can usually get in a good clip, but if you submit high quality WAV, it's usually 10 seconds mono and 5 seconds stereo. Most first-time record...

Re: equal loudness curves, plot spectrum, and dB levels
There are some rules of thumb. Woman's higher voices tend to be used for announcements because their voices tend to group in the sensitive peak of the Fletcher-Munson curves. Also, lesser known is that Fletcher-Munson isn't the only game in town and people have claimed much more statistically accura...

Re: Hz Conversion
I think the one with the least damage is Effect > Change Speed. That will also change the length of the show, but the point is, everything changes at the same time and the interactions between parts of the performance remain intact. You can also get there with Effect > Change Pitch, but that one nee...

Re: Does my audio sound fine?
60dB in English words is sound that is a thousand times quieter than normal speaking. So there's nothing accidental about this. You need to go to some effort to make sure there's no other sound in the room with you during the performance. One of the posters on the forum lives in an apartment on La B...

Re: M-Audio Fast Track USB + Shure SM57 + Audacity setup?
I've never heard of doing this, but if you really wanted to torture a drummer, make them play each single drum and assemble the drum performance through overdubbing. That way you can carefully mic each drum as it's played and it doesn't matter what kind of room you have. Of course, they won't be spe...

There are career moves for people who can mic drums. In general you can get one microphone to work by finding the sweet spot on a soundproof stage. Or your can tight-mic each drum in a crappy room.
Once mic in a crappy room is a challenge.....

Re: Vocal Distortion Plug in
Overdrive like flight controller voice, or outer space voice?
I've been known to use several passes of extreme leveler to get tight, compressed voices.
Effects > Leveler: Heaviest.
Run the sound through two or three times. Tune as needed.

Effect > Notch Filter: 120Hz Q=6 Noise Removal -1 Drag any segment in your quiet test > Profile Noise Removal -2 Select the whole clip > 9, 0, 150, 0.15 Effect > Normalize > [X]Normalize to -3 [X]Remove DC ~~ -- Noise is around the -60 range, but it doesn't count because I can hear you moving around...

Re: Does my audio sound fine?
You may have what I had. I have a power hum somewhere in my recording room. It's not physical sound, but it shows up like a radiation problem. I can move the microphone and make it come and go. It's not a fan. There are no fans in the room. Anyway, I need to listen to the latest versions on a comput...

Re: audacity download from sourceforge.net - no recording de
We don't make a .06 download. That appears to be one of the bogus versions. http://audacityteam.org/download/windows Version 2.0.6. When you install it, it will ask you part way through if you want to reset the preferences and settings. Say yes. When you launch, Audacity uses the operating system to...
