Re: Wanted: mastering chain for meeting ACX Guidelines

Forgive me. should I continue recording at mono 16 bit? Or 24bit/stereo? I don't know that it's an easy answer. Most original work recordists wouldn't dream of recording in anything short of 96000, 24-bit. The fuzzy rule is to do that when you want absolutely top quality and you intend to do post pr...

Re: Wanted: mastering chain for meeting ACX Guidelines

Actually, that points up another performance skillset. Bookkeeping. The lead movie editor in Hollywood turns to the assistant editor and asks for Scene Nine, Take Fifteen, April 12th (after lunch), 2013, Second Unit, Timonium, Maryland. "Yes, ma'am. I'll get that for you right away." Nobod...

Re: Wanted: mastering chain for meeting ACX Guidelines

Just because we didn't actually resolve this: Where did that muffled, honky clip you sent me come from? The "before" in that before-and-after segment I posted? You claimed it was one of your raw performance files, but it wasn't, was it? It was one of the performances you "corrected&qu...

Re: Wanted: mastering chain for meeting ACX Guidelines

LF_Rolloff is barely audible, again if you know how to listen for it. If you were a guy with a deep "Barry White" voice, you might have a conflict. Some of that terrific liquid vocal rumble would be gone. Normal male voices get "tightened up" a little and higher female voices don...

you see
I see. They don't need to know they're being interviewed.

That was my problem with the H1. It's difficult to hide that thing. Attached is my tape machine.

Re: It play 4 min. in 10 seconds.

If you have a sound file that Audacity doesn't recognize, it might play off speed. On Windows and Macs, you can install the FFMpeg software to make Audacity know about many more formats. I'm not sure how it works in Linux.

Totally baffled...... That's what happens with a right-brain creative engineer. I got to where your show was working so I sat down to listen to it. Then I had another cookie. You think I'm entertaining out there, you should see inside here. "Try one!": -3.8. That Try One would be edited o...

Re: Omnidirectional Stereo & Unidirectional Stereo?

Omnidirectional (all direction) microphones seem to be delightful beings until you try to use them. Can you control 100% of your recording environment at all times? I can't. Most people can't. Regard the most popular rock band microphone on earth and it's little sister, the SM58 and SM57 (voice, ins...

Re: Voice Recorder: Olympus DM-650 vs Olympus WS-833

I did investigate the H1 for casual recording. It's problem is the marketing people designed its look to scream that it's making a recording. My little black tape machine can be put in my pocket face down and nobody can tell it's there. It seems to me a marketing ploy to stuff as many microphones as...

Re: Crazy amounts of noise

You can get QuickTime to tell you what you have. Window > Show Movie Inspector.

You have an odd sound file and you may need to install the FFMpeg software to play it.
