Re: Microphone Compatibility
Here it is. The toolbar on the main Audacity screen is a shortcut for the preference settings. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/devices_preferences.html Do you have MME set as your Host? Further down, what are the options for Recording Device? I think tha...

Re: Microphone Compatibility
Do you get that little green bouncing sound meter to the right of the Windows icon? There's something really strange going on here. A stage/studio with an XLR connector won't work, because it's low-impedance balanced. But, a high-impedance unbalanced (2-wire) mic with a 1/4" connector should wo...

Re: Minimizing Unintentional Sounds
I know the "noise removal" function is no magic bullet It's not even a slightly mysterious one. It fails more often than it succeeds because by the time people realize they need it, it's too late. Noise Removal works on background noises that don't change. That's the bumper sticker versio...

Re: Windowed-sinc filter (steep low-pass filter)
Terrific. Now lets fix a documentation problem. Start Here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/index_of_effects_generators_and_analyzers.html ...and go to Optional Plugins in one step. I got to the above link by following "Effects" from the main manual page. Nothing wrong with that. The ...

Run the file in QuickTime and get it to tell you the INFO. Post a screen grab of that INFO panel.

Re: Recording Overdub
I was trying to listen to what tracks I had recorded and it would try to play all tracks. Each time you press Record, Audacity will start a new track just down from the last one and try to play them both at once when you're done recording. You can separate them with the SOLO and MUTE buttons on the...

What's the repetition rate. About every hour?
Can you post a WAV of one of the pops? Five seconds with the pop in the middle.

What are you recording? What's the show? What else is the machine doing? Skype is famous for having its way with a computer over everything else.

Re: How to remove noise from sound track
It is possible with high energy or EDM to get a music track so jacked up that it appears as a sea of red bands and it's not distorted at all, at least it matches the composer's wishes. In that case, just Effect > Amplify to -1 or Effect > Normalize to -1 and the red bands will vanish and the music s...

Re: Lost data while program still opened
I've repaired my permissions recently, maybe two days ago, I'll do it again. You can have permissions issues if you do a security upgrade or in some other way change the system at the OS-X level. Generally, installing applications or doing production won't do it. Permissions are a system level sett...
