Re: Low room tone noise
Unplugged the mic and I still get the low freq noise! That's not the shining light you may think. If you don't plug something in there, it will act like an antenna and start picking up radio stations. But yes, that is suspicious anyway. Did you get your Solo new? I did a noise test on my UM2. It's ...

...and closed.it is wiped when the project is saved.
Projects don't save UNDO, but UNDO remains available until you close Audacity. If you need UNDO after that, it's the end of the world.

Re: Low room tone noise
If it is the Solo, then it's a good chance it's broken. Microphone interfaces such as the Behringer UM2 and the Scarlett Solo can, on request, provide 48 volt phantom power to those microphones that need it. Screen Shot 2020-10-27 at 6.03.40 PM.png That means there has to be a power converter in the...

that too Excellent. We're following along in our hymnals and nothing rings alarm bell faster (to mix metaphors) than skipping steps because "It can't possibly be that." My vote is something wrong with the Solo. If you move the Solo to a different machine and the noise is still there, then...

Re: Low room tone noise
And as a completely side issue, if it is sound, constant exposure to it isn't healthy.

Re: Low room tone noise
20Hz is considered to be the low limit of human hearing. So some of your interference will never be audible except to cats and dogs—but it still takes up room. I'm not joshing, this is in the range of thunderstorms and earthquakes. Normal houses, apartments, and flats just don't make noises like tha...
Re: de-esser
I made up a "before" illustration. EssingBefore-Illustrated.jpg The two yellow dots are the extremes of the hump and those are the values (from the bottom scale) you put in the DeEsser "between" frequencies. Screen Shot 2020-10-27 at 10.04.45 AM.png Each microphone that produces ...
Re: de-esser
There's two. There's the classic, legacy, senior DeEsser. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=245549#p245549 And the newer DeSibilator. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=404021#p404021 Under some conditions of severe Essing (SSister SSuzy SsimulateSS) DeEsser would turn Essin...

Re: Audacity Export Doesn't Line Up With Original File
You didn't say the magic words "...as MP3." MP3 files have undetermined boundaries and different applications or even app versions can treat them differently. When I export a track, the very beginning appears to be slightly trimmed.
Never do production in MP3.
