Re: Static noise with multiple USB microphones
And also keep in mind your shiny new mixer and microphone system is going to have to get into the computer... wait for it ... via USB. The only way to avoid that, past a FireWire connection, is to record on a stand-alone recorder such as the Zoom or Tascam equipment. There is one poster cranking out...

Re: No monitor or record
I do remember Windows doing that to me on several occasions. The panel says the right things, but Windows doesn't execute until you open the panel to look at it.

Re: Audacity exported WAV file, RIFF format issue
Scientists and detail oriented people are frequently disappointed with Audacity. Audacity is not a WAV editor. It's a production editor and sometimes technical accuracy takes a back seat to making the show sound good.

Re: Distortion from loudness and static
Clip Fix can help mask one occasional clip every minute or so, not several minutes of continuous distortion. Overload and clipping is one of the reliable ways to destroy a show. During the harsh, crunchy passages of the show, the digital audio system is not following the performer. There is no clean...

dust off the old XP computer... Perfectly fine idea. Just don't put it on the internet. Microsoft stopped issuing security updates and it's a sitting duck. I use WinXP and Win2K machines locally to do odd jobs that don't require internet service. I have a local network that doesn't go outside. Koz

Re: No monitor or record
Audacity doesn't get its sound from the computer. It get it from Windows. Does Windows know it's there? Go down Windows control panels and make sure the mic shows and the little Windows sound meter shows bouncing when you speak or scratch.

Re: recording from cassette suddenly stops
I think the message is probably correct. Audacity gets sound from Windows, not the computer. If Windows can't figure out what's going on, you're dead.then I need a new device.

Re: recording line is slim,
How sure are you about that? All the TRRS plugs I've ever seen have the microphone either third (Nokia) or fourth (Apple). Attach. That's so you can plug generic headphones in and not notice anything wrong. The shafts are both 9mm long. Having one longer would also kill the headset/headphone interch...
