Re: ACX check

You shouldn't need minor tweaks to noise reduction. That's dangerous. Just enough compression to pass the RMS test and then test noise to make sure it passes -60. I think the noise values I picked should get you well below that. Noise Reduction correction numbers much past 12 indicate something wron...

Re: ACX check

You can also get a boost by changing the ratio. 2:1 > 2.5:1, etc. But I agree. I made a correction for someone else with a threshold at -20 and that seemed to sound OK. 'No Peaks Higher than 3.0' is burned into the ACX specs. The 3.2 goal number is to avoid conflicts when converting from WAV (high a...

Unfortunately Audacity does not yet support BWF format
I thought Broadcast WAV wouldn't go over 4GB, either. They did that for maximum compatibility with regular WAV.

Re: ACX check

Should I adjust the figure for "normalize" to compensate? No. That would be too easy. You have to maintain the two ends of the performance, maximum blue wave peaks and minimum background noise but change the middle, overall loudness (RMS). You can do that with the compressor tool. This is...

Re: Suggestions on setting up a compressor &/or brick wall f

If different microphone groups are handled by different mixers, you may never get there with a single UCA202 unless your goal is to record just one portion of the performance. This is a nightmare sound shoot for a pro recordist, so if you have to do this repeatedly, it may take several passes before...

Re: Suggestions on setting up a compressor &/or brick wall f

Audacity will sit and wait for a performance if Sound Activated Recording is selected.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording: [_] Sound Activated Recording (deselect).

Re: I'm getting "stereo" reverb and want none.

I had a Windows machine doing that and it turned out to be Windows adding "Cathedral Effects" to my recording. I don't remember where the setting is, but it's in Windows Control Panels somewhere.

Re: Recording too loud

I'm a Mac elf. I'm going to go cower in the corner now.

There's a joke that I can clear an IT office by just walking in and saying, "Hi. I have a Linux audio problem."
Six seconds later there's a single sheet of paper fluttering gently to the floor of an empty office.

Re: Suggestions on setting up a compressor &/or brick wall f

The digital system all uses negative numbers. Zero is maximum volume. That's where the digital system runs out of numbers and starts to distort because it can't follow the performance. -60dB is So Quiet you can hear a Pin Drop. You can use relative numbers. This sound is six dB higher than that. The...

Re: Line 6 UX2 interface problems w/audacity

ASIO, WDM and Mac OS X Drivers
Audacity doesn't work with ASIO software. So you have to work with the WDM software drivers.
