Re: re: recording in higher quality than when exporting...
It's not the noise. Audacity uses 32-bit floating so it doesn't overload. If you apply a filter or special effect that causes your sound to increase in volume, 16-bit sound would get destroyed. In 32-floating, you just bring the volume back down with any of the volume tools and keep right on working...

The high point of sound damage is "Microphone" and "USB" in the same sentence. Flynwill found this damage in a non mic-level UCA202, but he had to work at it—drag out the scopes and meters. I found my all too obvious damage in a mic-to-usb adapter and most of the other people wit...

Re: Phone interview sound quality
This is where you post some of the original interview. It's possible we can beef it up. Also post the same clip after you leveled it. You can only post five seconds or so of WAV stereo on the forum (ten seconds mono). Much longer in MP3, but that's not useful because of MP3 sound damage. Dropbox? Koz

Changing phantom power with a non-phantom microphone connected can cause damage by having the power applied unevenly. Phantom is designed to be applied "balanced" so it appear on pin 2 and 3 at the same time and cancels unless you are a phantom microphone and expecting it. The RCA 44BX, as...

Re: A few questions re headphones for audio book recording..
I shot my recent quiet/noise sound test using the Sennheisers. That's how I determine that my "recording studio" has hum electrically flying through the air. I would never have known that just watching the meters. I will admit using Koss earbuds for a recent field recording because I was i...

Re: Workflow for audio processing for podcasts
What's it sound like? If you're getting commercially available music, it's already been compressed and squashed and densified to death. Your live voice will tend to be light and airy, expressive and real. in short, it won't match the music at all. Processing is likely to be needed on the voice rathe...

Skype into a laptop running Pamela. You can get top quality split WAV recordings that way assuming you're both wearing headphones. Throw a little money and Skype will connect to a telephone or cellphone system and connect to multi-point conferences. I did a very nice Skype interview "test"...

I like the slap and echo that comes and goes. It keeps the monolog from sounding flat.

Re: My Blue Yeti is making an annoying buzzing sound
When I get a second, I do have a good quality MicPre digitizer, the Shure X2U to test for noise. That and any rock band microphone should work OK, although I'm not fond of the X2U because it tends to low volume. You seem to have drilled yourself a hole. I'd be casting off the USB microphone techniqu...
