If you have USB phonograph, did you unplug it and then plug it back in? Audacity checks for devices when it starts, but forgets anytime. So it may not know the phonograph is there.

Re: Help needed to set up an audio book project!
After you get the first few books under your belt, then you can try to record them yourself in your apartment, with an eye to your hired studio if it doesn't work out. Self Recording is much more difficult than people think. There is a studio across from where I sometimes have breakfast. It's called...

Re: Help needed to set up an audio book project!
While I have a warm-fuzzy feeling that our reputation has gotten this far out in the wild, this is the Audacity help forum. This is the place you go to share your experiences and help others to get Audacity working. It's not a help desk and it's not a course on how to record sound or produce audiobo...

Re: Recording Tapes To Computer
That's all right. You're close enough.
You are probably recording your laptop built-in microphone. Use the Audacity Device Toolbar to select what you want to record (right-hand segment).

Re: disable iTunes
My SD cards mount on my desktop as a little drive icon. Double click it to open. Control-Click (or right-click) on a song and Open With... If iTunes gets there first, close iTunes. Are you in Yosemite?
I'm not fond of the newer iTunes. It's harder and harder to do stuff I want.

Re: how to record on multiple tracks in same project
Rather than, or in addition to? The down side of recording Everything Playing On The Computer (Stereo Mix), is that it records Everything playing on the computer. Try muting the tracks you don't want to appear in the new recording. MUTE buttons on the left.

Re: AUDACITY CRASHS ON EXPORT
Did you use the metadata editor while the show was open? Older Audacity versions didn't like it if you used some punctuation marks in metadata.
Which Audacity do you have and which Windows?

Trying Exporting the work with a very simple filename like myfile . No punctuation, no dots, no dates and no spaces. Do you have room on your drive to save the work?

Re: noise removal option fails to get noise profile
If you have access to the lecturer before the show you might suggest they repeat the question before answering it. If the recording didn't get the question, then chances are good the rest of the hall didn't get it, either.

Re: A few questions re headphones for audio book recording..
Your recording studio in a bandana has hum electrically flying through the air? That sounds Back to the Futuresque. That's the theatrical description of the problem, but it's absolutely true. If you walk into my third bedroom at night, your ears pop from the quiet except the very tiny window leakag...
