Re: How is Audacity better than other recording apps?

It's normally thought of as a defect, but Audacity refuses to apply filters and effects on recording. If you got a bad sounding show, chances are good that's what your show actually sounds like. Windows is famous for causing recording problems with its conference and effects processing. Use Audacity...

Re: How is Audacity better than other recording apps?

We have users that own much larger audio production programs and use Audacity because it's simpler and faster for smaller jobs. That and it's free, inexpensive and doesn't cost anything.

The Zoom tools. Command-F zooms out to the Full show. If you drag-select a part of the show, Command-E zooms into that. Command-3 zooms out a little bit. I live in those three tools.

Re: Yet another total n00b

I like that they insist right up front that you can't "clean it up" in post production. If you don't walk away with a reasonably clear raw recording, you're doomed. I also think that 30 seconds of Room Tone is impossible. I had to shoot a broadcast sound segment and that's what they wanted...

Re: Yet another total n00b

A bed in a quiet carpeted bedroom is not a dreadful place to record your voice. That's how I shot the stereo test. http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhase4.wav I was shooting a 30 second clip. I don't know I would want to be on my knees for a novel. If you do graduate to a table or desk, pad the desk ...

Re: Yet another total n00b

I don't remember if I said this in English words, but post a revised sample, roughly ten second WAV with two second Room Tone and louder natural speaking. No playing racquetball with the microphone or wearing noisy pants. I'm afraid to ask if the microphone noises were because you were already close...

Re: Tutorial request for Gideon's voice (From The Flash CW)?

There's two voices. So duplicate the track and delay one very slightly with the other. Then change the volume of the "subordinate" one. Then change the pitch slightly. Salt and pepper, echo and reverb to taste. Oh, and start the project sounding like Morena Baccarin in a sound studio. Koz

Re: Diffing audio - help me figure out what's going on?

Audacity is not a scientific tool. It's a sound editor and manager. For one thing, Audacity doesn't edit 16-bit sound. It converts the show to 32-floating so to avoid accidental damage and distortion from filters and effects. After Audacity gets done, it has to convert back to 16-bit and when it doe...

Real voice actor/announcer/presenters are reading ahead of their mouth. They keep right on talking over a page turn.
