I would get a small stack of name-brand blank CDs for the first few until you get used to the process. TDK, Verbatim. I think Sony finally stopped making them. Never buy disks with "Hi Kwality" in the title.

Re: How does one merge AUP files ?
what's the best way to email a 3 min audio track to a friend ? If you know for a fact that all they're going to do with it is listen, then yes, re-export the song as MP3 and using the options in the export dialog, make sure the MP3 quality is 128 (Audacity default) or higher. That's the setting whe...

Re: removing background noise
I knew about the Snowball because I used one once or twice. I think Ian in Hollywood is using one to produce his audiobooks. I do have a Logitech USB headset. I stopped recommending headsets for theatrical recording. It's noisy, has hum, and features crisp airplane pilot vocal tones. In other words,...

ACX recommends a USB drive for storing recordings. ACX still has some scattered postings. They have a hardware recommendation for a Blue Icicle USB MicPre. Now, I'm sure that's a delightful MicPre, but it doesn't have a place to plug headphones. Typically, you can't plug headphones into the headpho...

I'm with you, but not right this minute. I need to do weekend chores and tasks. We can't always tell what level of detail to present, so we give the 10,000 foot view and you get to ask for help as needed.
Later.

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
Frying Mosquitoes was never intended to pass ACX. It's the poster child for why a USB microphone may not pass. After I speak, turn the speaker volume up so you can hear it. "Teee teee teee teee teee." ACX actually recommends boosting the speaker volume for difficult noise. The same noisy e...

Falling asleep.
That's all happening in iTunes, not QuickTime. iTunes uses QuickTime for all its internal workings.
Sorry.
Time for a vacation.

Re: questions re: stereo = balanced vs unbalanced = mono?, T
Mismatching balanced and unbalanced connections doesn't produce predictable errors. It rarely produces actual microphone damage, but it can just stop working. Worse, you can have a "magic" mismatch. " I found by accident that it started working with the plug half-way in, so I did the ...

Re: questions re: stereo = balanced vs unbalanced = mono?, T
The classic way to destroy a sound performance is send a USB microphone or sound system through a Hub with other USB stuff like keyboard or mouse. USB is a time shared system. Audio isn't. There's no such thing as telling your music to "hang on a second while I go service the keyboard." Ye...
