Re: I finally got a little test clip...
I haven't seen any How To's about such things on the ACX site, No and that's precisely where we had our little discussion. We live in details and specifications and they tend toward broad overviews and generalities. I haven't found it yet, but we have actual technical tests to make sure your perfor...

Re: How does Audacity music editing compare to other systems
That's not editing. That's performance rescue, filtering and forensics. Different people and software tend to be good at those jobs. What's the actual job? Are you transferring vinyl to DVD? Audacity has a very good section on how to do that including third party software. The next version of Audaci...

Re: Disapearing Audio!
The AUP file and the _DATA folder have to be named exactly the same and they have to be in the same place or folder to open. Further, they have to be named the exact thing you called them when you made them. If you renamed them, they won't open. If you don't remember what you called them, open the A...

You asked for an evaluation and I said I thought one of the instruments was recorded wrong.

Re: I finally got a little test clip...
Yeah, it seems like ACX should probably modify their requirements a bit to accommodate that type of thing. It's not up to them. They're in the business of supplying MP3 sound files and MP3s can get seriously screwed up with sound that's either too low or too high. I got your clip to easily pass wit...

Re: I finally got a little test clip...
I tend to not think that. I think it's Frying Mosquitoes where the audible portion of the USB/digital noise has been filtered out and the manufacturers called it good and shipped it. Who else but us would be concerned with noise at 7 Hz? Low frequencies are precisely where filtering hardware starts ...

It still sounds to me like the Cloudlifter would be a nearly perfect fix for the "too quiet" issue It does look like that, doesn't it? The review confirms that the unit only has 40dB of gain. An SM-58 has a "rated output" of -56dB. Broadcast standard level is +4. That's 60dB. 40...

Re: I finally got a little test clip...
One other note. I have gone on "hum hunting" trips by running my sound recording system in monitor mode into my headphones (right-click in the red recording meters > Start Monitoring). It does everything but "roll tape." Turn it up and walk around and see if I can figure out wher...
