Re: Manipulating Decibels
You don't need to download anything. It's possible to get a very good idea of your technical specifications with normal Audacity tools. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/noisetest2-patched.wav Download that eight second clip and open it in Audacity. Select the whole clip by clicking just above MU...

Re: Project data files disappeared randomly
What is the exact Audacity version, all three numbers and which Windows have you got?
So you make a recording and save the project. It produces an AUP file and a _DATA folder of the same name. Close Audacity. Double click the AUP file and Audacity should open with the show. Does it?

Re: Cannot locate libmp3lame.dylib
Did you install Audacity? The Mac Audacity comes with an installer now, but it didn't used to and people would try to run Audacity from inside the Disk Image (DMG) and get all sorts of crazy conditions and problems. Did you get the attached graphic when you installed Audacity?

Re: Manipulating Decibels
While we are figuring out your problems, ACX has a number of helpful videos. Grathwahl did a series on How To Succeed in AudioBook Production. It's largely producer, non-technical and it's worth the viewing. You might get some other surprises. http://blog.acx.com/2014/06/26/how-to-succeed-at-audiobo...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
There's quite a list of "I was horrified to find" situations. You have the worst one: "I recorded the whole book and now ACX won't accept it." I think you violated one rule. They require a special fifteen minute submission before you post the whole thing. I think that's right. If...

Re: Can Audacity Record VoIP Conversations, or not?
And just to cover it, I record cellphone and land-line calls with a special microphone and Audacity. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/olympus_TP7.jpg That's an Olympus TP7 and its adapters, but I have a newer TP-8 which doesn't need the adapter. Plug that into your ear and make the call on top of ...

Re: Can Audacity Record VoIP Conversations, or not?
That's not to say this is absolutely impossible. Just when you get everything settled, along comes Chase and the Reel Life Podcast. Reel Life Podcast http://reellife.podomatic.com/ He didn't do anything unusual. No odd software or configurations. He just opened up his computer and Audacity and start...

Re: How to recover data after renaming file?
This UNDO behavior is why it's a good idea to be able to finish your show even if the current project vanishes completely. Open the Project backup you saved a half-hour ago and if everything goes into the mud, build the show again from scratch using the original work and sound shoot back-ups you mad...

Re: How to recover data after renaming file?
I don't think this is going to help, but if you open up one of your AUP files in TextEdit, you should be able to read the original show name after projname=" Both the AUP file and the _DATA folder need to be named that and they need to match and be in the same folder or directory. If you File >...

Re: Project data files disappeared randomly
Are you really saving work on your own computer, or on a network drive? Audacity doesn't get along well with network drives. If your computer has a very aggressive virus protection, the program sometimes eats Audacity sound files. Some programs allow you to relax the protection for Audacity only, so...
