Re: Manipulating Decibels
I'm posting the two pre-production documents: How to test your clip and How to make a test clip. They're a lot more organized and sane than my on-the-fly forum postings. There are no links or pictures yet. ================================================= Make a ten second mono sound test file. 2015...

Re: How does one delete AUP & DATA files from Audacity.app
It's weird, to me at least, that Audacity choses this folder as the Save default. Yes, I wasn't too crazy about that myself. It's loudly begging to get messed up. However, it should let you fix it. Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Users and Groups > Select You > [X] Allow User to Administe...

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite
If you drag-select a second between words on your clip and Effect > Amplify > OK, (watch the volume) you'll find that the "silent" stretches are seriously disturbed. I wonder using that test if the damage starts earlier in time than you think. The live voice sound is clean during all this,...

Re: Figure out channel name of each track ?
Most of the movie is in the center, so that's the large, dense dialog track 3. LFE is frequently processed low and doesn't have much to do. Four is the smallest track.

Re: Figure out channel name of each track ?
If somebody forced me to guess just from the waveforms, I'd say Front, Front, Center-Dialog, LFE, Rear, Rear.
By convention, I think the Lefts go first. Let's see how I do.

Re: Manipulating Decibels
This happens often enough that I'm writing formal papers for both testing and generating a test file. Coming soon to a web page near you.

Re: "popping" noises occur randomly in my cuts.
Found it (attached). See those tiny straight vertical lines in the middle of the picture. That's a data dropout. Normal audio doesn't have vertical lines like that. So somewhere the system isn't keeping up with the data stream you're making with your microphone and just forgetting tiny segments of s...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
All these tests and postings assume you're in mono. Contrast doesn't work in Stereo and ten second stereo WAV will not fit on the forum. Mono is good for voice performances.

Re: Manipulating Decibels
You do have to start from somewhere and I use the peaks. Select a portion of one performance where you can identify a silent portion for the noise test. This may be difficult if you insist on breathing during the show. Make sure you have this work safely backed up in case something messy happens dur...
