Re: Audacity using up hard drive
You missed the magic words: How long is the show? Audacity runs internally at a very high uncompressed bit depth (32-floating). So the first thing it has to do is uncompress the FLAC show. Then, if you do an effect or filter, the size doubles and then doubles again. It has to keep very high quality ...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
This is my mixer with those same three knobs labeled. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MixerControls-500.jpg The up side of knowing how to run your mixer is then you know how to run most mixers. I got that picture from an ad, I didn't take it, so the knobs are set wrong, but they're in roughly the...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
Since we don't have Audacity or the computer turned on yet, you should plug your 7506s into the mixer. The headphones come with 1/8" plug and a 1/4" adapter, right? You can plug into either socket? So shifting between the computer to the mixer should be no trouble — if you can remember whe...

Re: Unwanted Skype Audio
Your brother has the "magic" machine. Most machines and setups will not allow you to record both sides of a Skype call. There are special software packages designed specifically to allow you to do a "podcast" by recording both sides in real time. If he likes to record internet au...

Re: Interfacing with M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Maybe not so fast. The M-Audio headphone connection is there to give you your own voice or instrument with no delay. That's required if you're planning on overdubbing. Your own live voice is going to be "one computer late" if you listen to the soundcard. Did you set the Audacity Device Too...

Re: Using Audacity with Xonar Essence STX PCI-E Audio Card
A soundcard with that many talents and that much gold should have a driver or software suite, no? You didn't mention that anywhere in your post. Many sound devices default to low level because it's safe. You can recover from low level. The first time you overload a sound channel, that's the end of t...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
I agree. This is a cousin to the system I have and it works without very much additional fuss. Shut down the mixer and the Phantom Power generator. Plug the microphone directly into the mixer. No Lifter and no phantom power. Make sure "Mic Power" is not selected on the mixer and turn it on...
