Re: New and needing a little direction

Neither of those is the "raw clip." I can hear processing in there. We'd like to hear the real raw capture. Or make one up. Record a clean, 10 second mono clip. Hold your breath and don't move for the first two seconds. Export WAV and post it. I'll tell you what I think you should do in my...

Re: Won't let me record in existing track anymore

See if it's still broken if you restart the computer.

If so, see if Shift-R is still listed in the keyboard shortcuts.

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Keyboard: Key. Scroll down.

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book

I was hearing through the head phones. That's scary. Is the computer still on and connected to the mixer by any method? Is anything connected to the mixer other than headphones, microphone and power? Is this a good place to investigate where you got the mixer from? We were led down the garden path ...

Re: simple question

That's because it's not a simple setting. Perfect, uncompressed sound formats don't "play games" with the data with the possible exception of FLAC. You might look into that. Make sure your client or destination can open FLAC. You can get an easy 50% reduction in filesize by smashing everyt...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book

Yes, but I've seen some that were so dirty that levels were almost zero. Including metal shavings on the magnet. But it was still running. Through all that they didn't turn into decorative piles of metal (although given you can't use them for a show any more). I also had feedback. You mean the &quo...

Re: I can no longer import music to Audacity

One day, however, my computer crashed I'm more interested in that. Do you know why it crashed? Did you have to hold the power button to get it back? It's most unusual for a Mac to go face-first into the mud. Can I re-word your sentence: " This time when it crashed, Audacity was open." Koz

Re: G.723.1

What did Google have to say about it? I'm sure it's compressed. There are only a handful of uncompressed formats. I think there's only two lossless compressed formats. All the rest sacrifice some quality to get smaller files. You can install the FFMpeg software add-on and open up many different soun...

Re: Newbie help- no audio from midi

Audacity doesn't support MIDI. I record my keyboard through the headphone (analog) connection.
