Close Audacity. Does Windows see the microphone and do you get the Win7 little bouncing sound meter in the control panels? Audacity gets its sound from Windows. If Windows can't find it, that's the end of the story.

Re: cutting in tracks
How are you deleting the work? Drag-select a portion and press the DEL key?

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
I thought so. This is a text grab from a commentary about the SM7. If Shure had any sense, they would offer to bundle a Cloudlifter unit with each SM7B they sell. It's a simple, elegant solution. You can run your Lifter from the Phantom Generator you bought (MicroPower PS400 "Mic Thru"), o...

Actually 12.6.6. We needed a little more aggression than the devil could do. Is it still the case that if you start getting closer to 20, you should probably start addressing other shortcomings in your recording environment? 12 used to leave just barely audible stuff floating in the sound (snake voi...

Re: Ambient noise in track after compression and equalizatio
I think to specifically answer, yes you do have to record with the sound meter in the yellow zone and solve the noise problem. It would be nice to be able to put tape and magic marker on the knobs and controls where they have to be for a good recording, but they don't work like that. The proper sett...

Re: Problems with the new Noise Reduction replacing Noise Re
On a bright, cheery note. I've used the new Noise Reduction several times now with gentle settings and it appears to work as on the tin with few if any evil artifacts. I haven't needed to rescue projects on death's door, either, but what I've done sounds good.

Re: RECORDING STEREO FROM TURNTABLE
USB Turntable?
Close Audacity and find the turntable in the Windows Control Panels. Does the sound meter jump with the music and is there a setting for Mono/Stereo?
If you have your turntable plugged into the analog Mic-In, that connection is usually mono.

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
That is not a good thing. No. It's not. This may be where you pay somebody to set you up and then show you how to run it all. About every third step in the self-setup is going to be "Test and see if it sounds OK." My final test before I submit custom filters and processing for someone is ...

Re: New and needing a little direction
In my opinion, you're stuck even with advanced software. Once you burn processing like Noise Removal or Compression into a performance, that's the end of the world. Further processing is just going to dig you a hole deeper and deeper. We urge strongly that the performer export and save raw performan...
