Re: Removing buzz from my audiobook
And yes, you can turn a broom closet into a recording booth. That's what Ian did, currently the longest running thread on the forum. However, even though California is reputed to have no seasons, we do summer pretty well, and Ian has to come out of his sound-sealed closet every so often and gasp for...

Re: Meeting Acx requirements
You should have Steve's rumble filter if you don't already. It may or may not be useful, but it's good to have it in the event it's needed. It's used with Equalization's Length slider (to the right) all the way up. Attached: LF_rolloff_for_speech. Unzip and install it in Effect > Equalization. http:...

My Analyze-Contrast will not work Do you know what a "doorknob moment" is? That's the doctor's office when the patient, after having received a glowing good bill of health from the doctor's inspection, turns with their hand on the doorknob to leave and says, "I bleed out the noise ev...

Re: Removing buzz from my audiobook
Almost all the shortcomings of personal recording have to do with hardware, and by that I'm including your room. There is only one item in that list that has to do with an actual performance. All the rest are microphone, computer or room failure. People do manage to get good recordings with a partic...

Here's the Pando setup (attached).

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
If you're handy with a voltmeter, it can be 48-ish volts open circuit. They just have to get close. All modern microphones have a range of acceptable voltages, and this system has to be able to run over long cables. 12 is not close. Yes, they're resistors, usually precision balanced units so as not ...

OK. That works for me. You should be able to run the Lifter by selecting MIC-POWER on the mixer. You will not need the external Phantom Generator. Cable the Lifter straight into the mixer. This should boost the sound enough to get an occasional mixer yellow flash and perform without shouting. Should...

Re: Podcasting with different types of Mics
So that one issue may not be a problem. I wasn't clear. The problem isn't hearing himself. The problem is hearing The Show. Next week we're going to try to integrate a Skype interview. Oh, wait, how is he going to hear the Skype voice? You can't run speakers and microphones in the same room. Koz

Two microphone show: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/CharlieRoseSpacing-650.jpg Regard the distance between these two. That's how the sound people keep their voices apart. It's less obvious, but they're recording on a WNYC Soundstage in New York. That keeps the room echoes out of each other's sou...
