Re: Voice over tinny sound needs fixed
I've been perfectly happy with how it sounds, though. In your quiet room? Once you tame the room, all sorts of options present themselves, including a relatively inexpensive microphone. I can remember (he said in his best codger voice) when we used to recommend USB microphones without question. Now...

And from basic electronics, if you measure between pins 2 and 3, you should get nothing. Both pins are at 48 volts, but the difference between them is zip.

Re: Recording other people
No. Export jams all the tracks and production work into one stereo (or mono) sound file. You can play that, but not the individual pieces. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ShotGunInterview.jpg The big kids use a special microphone or two microphones. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/CharlieRoseS...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book
It's not critical now. The presence of 48 volts on the schematic diagram is good for me. I know how the basic electronic design works. A measurement is taken between pin 1 and pin 2 and then a second measurement between pin 1 and pin 3 in the XLR. Both should read about 48 volts. If you have a stron...

Re: A few questions re headphones for audio book recording..
The last pass I made through the ACX recommendations said the in-ear earbuds worked well enough to be used. They do work well, I'm just not crazy about the comfort. One day I borrowed a set of 7506s and did direct comparisons between them and a shopping bag of other headphones including other Sonys,...

Re: Do I have to export after applying pitch shift effect?
You have to Export. Audacity works on its own super high quality internal format and then makes a new sound file through Export when you're done with production. People make a common mistake of exporting new work with the same filename as the original file. Audacity will do that, but if anything hap...

Re: Saving Audio Work
It's a common problem. Audacity doesn't save sound files, it saves Projects. You can get Audacity to make a sound file through Export. The default Export is WAV (Microsoft) which will open and play in all three major computer systems, but if you need to send a long (though lower quality) show throug...

Re: Vocal removal
Playback is the sound meter on the bottom. If your Audacity doesn't look a lot like attached, you may need to upgrade to 2.1.0. http://web.audacityteam.org/download/ If you have two sets of blue waves and the sound meter splits into two obviously different jumping bars, then you have a stereo show. ...

Re: Removing buzz from my audiobook
There are tricks. The Jandy Studio which wasn't soundproofed but had non-parallel walls. We sent a number of sound shoots through there. Two thin WhisperRoom walls instead of one thick one. Done well with enough arithmetic, the chamber helps cancel the sound. Helmholtz? I can't believe I remember th...
