Re: Finding the right equalization for my voice
You're sure you didn't slide a little noise reduction in there? That clip appears to have pumping noise which is a feature of the older Noise Reduction tool. I don't hear anything wrong with that clip the way it is. Most people are frantically trying to get rid of harshness, sibilance and too much c...

Re: Finding the right equalization for my voice
I've noticed recently that the speech that I have been making is not quite as crisp as I would like it to be. How are you listening to it? The speakers or headphone type could make a big difference. How is most of your audience listening to it? You could be paused on the precipice (so to speak). Un...

Re: Anything I import to audacity is empty!
Is the download 38 - 3/4 seconds long?
When was the last time you powered off the machine? Try that. Start and see if the problem is still there.

And if you solve it, do post back and tell us how you did it. This is a forum for sharing, not a help desk.

Re: Audacity keeps freezing
How long is the show? Every time you do something, Audacity has to build an UNDO the same size as the show. If you're running out of drive space, Audacity won't have enough space to put things. If you import an hour MP3 show, Audacity uncompresses it into a huge WAV format at very high bit depth. An...

Re: Anything I import to audacity is empty!
On my machine, the GIF repeatedly loads and it's really annoying. You have silent files or the sound level is so low it doesn't appear on the blue waves. If you play it, do the sound meters move? If they don't, then there's no show there. Download this 39 second sound file I made and see if it plays...

Re: Will this pass ACX scrutiny?
Effect > Equalization: LF_rolloff_for_speech, Length 8191 > OK Effect > Normalize: [X]Remove DC [X]Normalize to -3.2 > OK File > Export. We do warn people that even though an ACX submission is MP3, your own home archive should always be WAV. WAV can be made into anything else. Re-editing an MP3 caus...

Re: Will this pass ACX scrutiny?
You are confirmation that the H4n has superior microphone (fffff) noise compared to my H4. I would not be preparing a show with an XLR microphone plugged into my H4. I tried it and it was too noisy. In case I didn't say so earlier, with the banishment of the fridge, you could be one of those mythica...

Re: Meeting Acx requirements
You might let them decide. The last few tests have sounded "like you" with no damage. Once you pass conformance, submit and see what happens. Sometimes people fall in love with the effects and lose the goal of just reading the story. I set the scenario of someone reading you a story over c...

Re: Meeting Acx requirements
I can justify all the steps. They're not accidental. Compressor works much better bracketed with Normalize. The first one presets your voice to a standard level so Compressor doesn't have as much work to do to "find" it. The second one converts the result to ACX. what should my next step b...
