Re: Audacity records with mic that is not selected in the microphone input
I have to completely exit out of audacity Maybe not. Transport > Rescan... and force Audacity to go looking for your Clarett2pre. Audacity might drop a connection if there's something wrong with it. So you have perfectly described a ratty USB connection. Is it a home run or does it go through a USB...

Re: Overdub doesn't work with Tascam US-1200
Just to be sparkling clear, you can record a fresh track just fine, but using that fresh track as the backing track , you can't record a second track? You didn't exactly say those words. It's an oddly common failure to go through all those checks and have a recording fail because of a bad backing tr...

Re: connecting Mac to my interface
Could this be as complicated as plug the 2i2 in first, wait a bit, and then start Audacity?

Re: Trying to get a SM58 mic to work with my computer setup.?.?
good to know what to look for to improve the sound if needed. I don't know if taking the front of a microphone apart is that good an idea. Behind the grill cap are the hair thin wires and foil of the sound sensor. One touch in the wrong place and that's the end of the microphone. You can destroy a ...

Re: -20db or best signal
You can get away with most of the work at -20 in a recording studio where everything is quiet and the microphones, mixers, and recorders are well behaved. Home recording should be louder because of microphone limitations and unfortunately, that makes it more likely to have accidental overload damage...

Re: Multiple microphones
If you have a Mac, those can do "Aggregate Device" where they will record two USB microphones at once. You might still run into timing problems at the end, but if you keep the show short, that might be OK.

Re: Multiple microphones
Are you in the same room? Unless you have good soundproofing, each microphone is going to pick up the other and give odd echos in the show, even if you do record on different tracks. The easiest way to record separate tracks is on separate computers. Audacity will only record from one thing or devic...

Re: Trying to get a SM58 mic to work with my computer setup.?.?
Use the red connection. This is what it was designed for. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/soundCardFinal2.jpg To be clear, it's still not going to be Academy Award® winning sound. This microphone was designed to have a rock singer screaming into it and the connection cable really is a mismat...

Re: Select audio between two labels
Right. That's why you click on the sound above the labels, if that's the eventual goal.clicking on the label track in between two labels is a little strange
