Re: Will this pass ACX scrutiny?

Also regard the hum problem you had. You made several different clips with equipment turned on and off and all I did was make the software tell me which had the higher loudness. I could have done that without even knowing it was hum.

Re: Will this pass ACX scrutiny?

You're not the only hearing-challenged performer. "Sure, your voice sounds fine, but do you hear that buzz in the background?" "Um......no." There are ways to work around this, but they take a bit more talent/experience. 120Hz power hum has a distinctive pattern in Analyze > Plot...

Re: Backing track getting quieter when vocal track recorded

New Windows laptops, Win7 and Win8 all have this processing and it gets in the way constantly. I'm not a Windows elf, so the best I can do is forum experiences and wiki pages. Oh, wait. There's one more. Do you leave Skype running in the background? Skype changes the sound system to suit itself and ...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book

Now that I think about it, it's actually much worse than that. When you cut and edit the presentation, you can't have any gaps or silent stretches. You can have theatrical pauses or silent stretches for tension and suspense, but if you make them, you'll have to make them hum. Nothing like building t...

Re: Very Inexperienced & Working on Audio Book

I'll bet there's folks in Oklahoma that think of California as beaches and palm trees. It's not? but about 1/4" in my mason jar I think we did better down here in the Tsunami Zone. Rain pounding on the roof and my plant pots are overflowing. One of the other posters in this gaggle had the psyc...

Re: behringer guitar link

Audacity doesn't directly support ASIO, so don't bet the farm on that one. Yes, if everything works but the headphone, the unit may be fried. As First Level Maintenance, I would pull the headphone plug out and scrub it with Windex, alcohol, or vodka. Dry thoroughly. Plug it in and turn it a couple o...

Re: Tracks

Audacity doesn't burn anything. You'll need a Audio CD Authoring Program to manage the music, the order, and the spaces between songs. Windows Media and iTunes will both do that.

Re: Meeting Acx requirements

is the chosen playback speed set when you first record? Yup. "X1" or times-one is your normal speaking speed. We do have Effect > Change Pitch or Speed or Tempo, but none of them have ever won any awards for good quality. In addition, the effect doesn't "take the air" out of you...

Re: Meeting Acx requirements

Are you in WaveForm (dB) for a reason? It can be very difficult to edit in WaveForm (dB) as it gives noise and low level sound blue waves high priority as compared to your normal voice. Little black down arrow on the left of the track > WaveForm. Some people like to edit in WaveForm (dB), but I have...

Re: behringer guitar link

Can you record the guitar? If the unit has lights, are they on?

If you set the unit for playback in Windows and Audacity, can you hear Audacity playback?

Can you try any of this on another computer — like maybe your old one.
