Re: Overdub help with 2.4.2
I'm sure the problem is something horribly obvious. I'm not. A similar problem has flummoxed us before. There's nothing wrong but it doesn't work. Lets try a diagnostic. Make sure a fresh Audacity is pointed at the UMC404, both record and playback. Forget the imported track. Live record a backing t...

Re: how to reconstruct audio recording with only .au files
They have not been edited or changed in any way, right? If you do that to an edited production, that's the end of the world. The two interviews are in separate baskets? There was a poster a while back that did manage to smash a pile of AU snippets back into a show. https://forum.audacityteam.org/vie...

Re: Audio cassette sounds very hollow
That sounds like the heads are off. With tape that small, the slightest mis-alignment of the heads turns the presentation into muffled mush. Another thing to look for is all the cassette processing. They have to match. Dolby B, Dolby C, DBX. That can profoundly affect the sound quality. If the tapes...

Fender amp to a USB connection on the PC. Most Fender amps I've ever met didn't have USB connections. Yours does? And you're sure it's an audio connection. It doesn't have to be. Stereo Mix (Realtek audio). Stereo Mix is the one you pick if you want to record everything in the whole world. Audio De...

I'm pretty happy with my Behringer UM2. That's it on the left. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MBP_StarbucksStudioShoot-500w.jpg It has direct monitor so you can listen to yourself mixed with the backing or rhythm track on headphones in real time. One XLR microphone and one "instrument&...

Re: Trying to get a SM58 mic to work with my computer setup.?.?
The original problem is connecting a Shure SM58 to a soundcard. Is that your problem? Read through the thread. Do you have the right adapter cable? There are two slightly different and only one works right.I have this problem and i'd tried everythings

You wouldn't damage it intentionally, no. But then you're not a Polish engineer.Neither the wire ball or the thin foam touch the mic capsule.

Re: Overdub doesn't work with Tascam US-1200
Someone will correct me, Audacity does its stuck cursor thing when it can find a valid device, but the bitstream from that device drops dead. Losing a bitstream in the middle of a musical note is pretty unusual. Most of the time digital does it's traditional thing of either working or not. A ratty b...

Re: Overdub doesn't work with Tascam US-1200
one of you more experienced Audacity folks would be able to point out some option that I had accidentally set that would cause this. That's what we would normally do, yes. "Did you set the frammistat option?" But every so often someone will arrive with a problem we've never seen before. I...

Re: How do I Quiet Down an Audio File?
Audacity can't take apart a mixed performance into individual voices, songs, or sounds. So if the show is already mixed, you're stuck. You can record your voice on its own Audacity track (or import an already recorded track) and then import music as separate tracks. They will all play at once unless...
