Re: ACX Check: RMS vs Peak

I have some musical clips as well. I just noticed that. ACX doesn't like "Radio Theater." No organ music, orchestra background, bands, or other effects, or theatrical sounds. I have heard brief introduction music at each chapter, but that's about it. If you're goal is to make the presenta...

Re: ACX Check: RMS vs Peak

Audiobook Mastering is a "suite." A harmonious grouping. You need to take all the tools in order, don't add any, and don't leave any out. As you're finding, they do the work and then clean up after each other. AudiobookMasteringSuite2.png If you apply Mastering to any reading, the RMS (Lou...

Re: sound but no waveform after new microphone and interface

The sound wave is still quite itty bitty, though better than it was. I don't know that jumping the gun is a good idea. Could you get the red Solo knob? Ever? Even yelling? Could you hear yourself on your wired headphones connected to the solo? All the other Solo lights in order? While shooting the ...

Re: Unable to remove mic whine (samson Meteor USB)

The USB whine is only the most common cause. You can have whine sounds from fluorescent lights, LED lights, CFL Light Bulbs, or even straight, ordinary light bulbs dimmed half-way. eeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Sometimes a leaking air sound. sssssssssssss. That's likely if you got the noise on more than one reco...

Re: sound but no waveform after new microphone and interface

All that is just getting your microphone to work. After that, we get to wrestle with Windows. Windows can have so many complexities that I shot my technically successful audiobook sound test on a stand-alone sound recorder. That's a Zoom H1n. I recorded to its built-in chip memory. We are cautioned ...

Re: Long podcast episode — timing is off

I have some background noise when I record Do you know what your background noise is? Noise is a home performers constant problem. Nobody hears that air conditioning or refrigerator noise in real life until it appears in a performance. I do pretty well for echoes and most noises, but I still have t...

Re: Making sound files of a handful of frequencies

One more caution. Scientists get into trouble with Audacity all the time because not all Audacity processes are surgically accurate. If there is ever any choice between scientifically accurate and sounding good, Audacity will always choose sounding good. For example, When Audacity makes a "perf...

Re: Making sound files of a handful of frequencies

There is a caution here. If you apply white noise loud enough, it can damage your speaker or headphone system. Normal, natural sounds do not contain that much high pitch energy and speakers aren't equipped to handle it.
