Re: Optimal Audio Settings
this feels like a huge step in the right direction. The XLR cable was forcing powerful, line-level sound signal into the microphone connection of the interface. That's as much as 1000 times too loud. The other connections, the 1/4" sockets are both working with Line-Level signals, so they shou...

Re: Want to find tone frequency (Hz) for language project
I think this is probably a simple problem Nope. Hard problem. Each mouth sound is made of hundreds of different tones, overtones and harmonics. Voices and instruments are all like that. That's why someone who wants to filter out all the French Horns from the orchestra by tones and frequencies is pr...

Re: .SES files
Does Audition use a _DATA folder, too?
Adobe has been changing the .ses formats and they're now on .sesx with no compatibility to the older versions. Which ones have you got?

Don't you want to hear the track while you're recording a new track? You are doing this in overdubbing, right?

Re: Need help with raw vocals
There is Effect > Equalization.
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/equalization.html
You can click and draw lines for emphasis, or switch to Graphic EQ and it will give you sliders like a music system.

Re: Improve Sound Quality of recording
I know its a long shot It is, yes. The echoes, muffling and ambience of the hall are burned in. This is exactly the same problem that people have when they come back from a rock concert. "Can you help me clean up...." We can help a little with the bass notes. Effect > Equalization: Graphi...

Re: Optimal Audio Settings
It's a good bet you wired the OUT of the preamp to the IN of the interface wrong. It's not an XLR cable. It's a 1/4" jumper cable. Male on both ends. I can't tell if it should be a stereo or a mono cable. Plug in what you have. This is a rock band guitar cable. Each plug only has one black band...

I think we're playing dueling posts. We both post at the same time and the questions and answers are out of order.

Re: Optimal Audio Settings
I know you told me to ignore everything else That's correct. Good audio equipment and systems allow for step by step analysis of problems by providing monitoring and metering at critical stages along the way. Since the socket on the back of the unit does not say Headphone Out, I know that the best ...

Re: Optimal Audio Settings
OK, while you're doing that test, are you preparing a quiet room or "booth?" Without question the thing that kills most people is the environment, not the equipment. People living in a noisy environment "tune it out" and don't hear it any more. We had a joke at a friend's guest h...
