Yes, you can, but that will only change the existing show sample rate, not a new recording. It depends on what you want to do.

Re: Live listen is fine but recorded playback is not
Do you get the red lights on the Focusrite while you're recording? Or did you during the problem recordings? The Focusrite doesn't have sound meters, but they do have lights behind their knobs that tell you when you're making a damaged recording. Unique gain halos stay green when your level is right...

Can you drag-select about ten seconds of the crackling sound, export it as WAV (Microsoft) and post it here?

Re: Is this behaviour by design?
I probably wouldn't change it there. Those are conversion rates, not recording standards. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Quality. ~ and ~ Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices (stereo/mono). Audacity always works internally at 32-bit floating. If you pick 16-bit as the recording standard, the per...

Re: USB Mic Problems
Is that getting into phantom power and stuff? Phantom Power is a little magic. I use the phrase "48 volt phantom power" to split it off from some other, less popular, oddball methods. It's applied to XLR, 3-wire microphone systems. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/XLR-Cable-500.jpg The ...

the latest versions of Audacity and OSX. We prefer actual numbers. You'd be shocked at the number of people running "the latest" three-year old software on "the newest" Mavericks. I can't update my preferences You going to have to get closer than that. Preferences won't open, or...

Oh. I bet the laptop is running Windows Enhanced Services. That's why it's so quiet. I'm hearing odd noises in there which don't sound natural. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements Do you hear that "blowing into a milk bottle" sound here and t...

Re: Unable to import .wav and .ogg
Since you're on Windows, your file could be named MyFile.wav.mp4, and Windows would hide the .mp4 (MPEG-4)part. You can get windows to show you the complete filenames rather than try to hide them. Hidden File Extensions - Windows -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Exte...
