Re: Passing the ACX test, BUT does it sound any good?
The settings I posted are for sound normalized to 0dB Right. That's why I preceded the correction with LF Rolloff and Normalize to 0 in the Processing List. I'm finding it more and more valuable to precede or bracket processing steps with either Amplify or Normalize. It eliminates or greatly reduce...

Re: Passing the ACX test, BUT does it sound any good?
OK, so to drag this back to the problem: Record dialog according to the last known good setup. Effect > Equalization: LF rolloff for speech > OK -- removes any rumble or thumps. -- I don't remember if you have this custom filter yet or not. Effect > Normalize: [X]Remove DC, [X]Normalize to 0 > OK --...

Re: Maximum length for imported file
If you're recording something plugged into the side of the computer, the limit used to be 13 hours at Audio CD rates: 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. I think that limit went away several versions back. Too many people needing surveillance recorders ran into it. Make sure your computer doesn't try to update i...

Re: Getting rid of muffled/hollow sound (Audacity 2.1.1)
There are two roughly similar postings with damaged voice shoots and I had a Twilight Zone moment there. I think the processing error you posted earlier and the beating I gave it just now are two people trying to get rid of room echoes. You can' t get rid of room echoes. Once you record in a carpet-...

Re: Maximum length for imported file
ACC or AAC? AAC is a recognized Apple/iTunes format. You should avoid converting the work to another compressed format like MP3. Each time you do that you pick up additional compression sound damage from each format. Convert to WAV if you can. The quality of the sound won't get any better, but it wo...

Re: Sharpening muffled/crackly voice
I'm out. It's too far gone to salvage. Either of us can come up with filters and effects to get rid of all the problems but that gargling sound. There's little pieces of the track which don't do that and then it starts up again destroying the second or third word. How were you doing the shoot? Did y...

Re: Maximum length for imported file
What kind of file is it? If it's something Audacity doesn't recognize, it could be any length and Audacity won't open it. Make sure your'e in Audacity 2.1.1 and install the FFMpeg software package. It's an extender for different types of sound files. Scroll down. http://audacityteam.org/download/mac...
