The AUP isn't a sound file. It's a text file portion of an Audacity Project. The other portion is the _DATA folder of the same name. Windows has to know about and be able to use all of its sound cards and other equipment before you launch Audacity. Audacity only checks for new equipment automatically when it starts. Sure. Run Compressor with a higher ratio. If you were using 2:1, try 2.5:1 or even 3:1. Of course, go back to the original shoot and do that, don't layer multiple effects on one track. If one of the ideas is to measure blood pressure, getting the systolic point should be relatively easy, many of those noises are within human hearing. But listening for the diastolic point where the beat fades could be entertaining.
